      Hi Michael,

It’s taken from the top of St. Peter’s basilica (the Cupola). The 320 steps were a bit steep and crowded with tourists, but the view was worth it. Are you thinking of doing a time lapse from up here? ;)

Great shot. I’m often in Rome, but I’ve never climbed to the top of the basilica. I will next time. Thank you for the view!

The view was definitely worth the climb, even if it’s a bit steep and you’re squished between tourists in some spots!

Thanks Christy! I had to take a few before photos I got an alignment that was down the centre of the square (circle!) :)

It’s definitely worth navigating the tourists for a shot like this!

Speaking of dealing with tourists, there was a girl who decided it was okay to smoke and toss cigarettes from up there. Oh the joys of tourist season in Rome.

Brilliant shot of a brilliant city landscape!
Seeing how small the people look in the square makes me dizzy ;-)

If I ever climb up those 300 steps again, I’m going to try to make a time lapse of the square. Little people walking about always seem to look good in those videos. And now that you’ve made me look at the details of my own photo, I just noticed that there’s a river and bridge in the distance too… :)

I love good viewpoints too, it usually shows more context and also jogs my memory of the experience I had. With aerial shots I sometimes notice details I didn’t see when I was there in person… like the river and bridges at the end of the street in this photo!
